Euphonium+Percussion is a side project of euphonium player Brian Meixner & composer/percussionist Nathan Daughtrey. The two met in the fall of 2012 as colleagues at High Point University. Brian had already commissioned a slew of works for the combination and asked Nathan to write a piece, which resulted in Spitfire. After performing at the Northeast and Southeast Regional Tuba Euphonium Conferences that spring, the duo went into the recording studio the following summer (2013) and recorded the album PRAXIS. The album alternates between works for euphonium with percussion quintet and duets for euphonium and various percussion instruments. The duo has gone on to perform at the International Tuba & Euphonium Conference at Indiana University in Bloomington, where they premiered Nathan's trio for euphonium, tuba, & percussion EvenStar. Additionally, Nathan's work for solo euphonium & percussion quintet, Coming Home, won the Harvey Phillips Award for Excellence in Composition.
